Legend of Count Arnau Interpretation Centre, Abbot's Palace.

The Abbot's Palace in Sant Joan de les Abadesses, built in the 14th century, is today home to the Legend of Count Arnau Interpretation Centre.

Here, visitors will learn the tale of a legendary figure in Catalan history, Count Arnau. The idea behind the Legend of Count Arnau Interpretation Centre is to provide the keys to understanding the origin and evolution of the figure of Count Arnau, as seen through folklore, history, music and literature. Through the use of audiovisual and interactive displays, recreations, back-lit panels..., visitors are introduced to the song and the legend of Count Arnau, and will learn how he came to acquire this mythical status.

Sant Joan de les Abadesses Monastery

Guided tour of the Monastery and Museum, where you will learn about the origins of Sant Joan Monastery —founded in the 9th century by Count Wilfred the Hairy—, its history, its architecture and the three important sculptural pieces: the Santíssim Misteri, and the altarpieces depicting Santa Maria la Blanca and Sant Agustí. At the Monastery museum you will be able to see various period pieces from the 11th century to present day.

El Molí Petit, the Abbesses' mill

Guided tour of El Molí Petit, the "Little Mill", a flour mill connected to the origins of Sant Joan monastery and today converted into an eco-museum and interpretation centre for watermills. An audio-visual display and permanent exhibition in the former mill workshop reveal the parts of the mill, the way they work and the trade of the miller. Visitors will also be shown the area outside the mill to get a better idea as to how the force of the water was exploited to mill the flour.

Historic town of Sant Joan, "Discovering Sant Joan from the age of the counts to the present day"

Tour of the historic town of Sant Joan, "Discovering Sant Joan from the age of the counts to the present day", through which visitors will be introduced to over 1100 years of history in a pleasant, enjoyable format. Beginning with its founding in 9th century, visitors will get a glimpse of the age of medieval splendour through the narrow streets of the Old Town. You will be taken along the route over the bridges crossing the River Ter while being told of their importance in the birth of industrial activity. Finally you will visit Plaça Clavé and its statue of Count Arnau.
